"Mothra", Original Japanese Re-Release Movie Poster 1976 (for 1961 film), B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O336
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1976 for the domestic re-release of Ishirō Honda’s tokusatsu classic Mothra (1961). Produced by Toho, with groundbreaking effects by Eiji Tsuburaya and a soaring score by Akira Ifukube, the film stars Frankie Sakai, Kyōko Kagawa, and the singing duo The Peanuts as the Shobijin. A cornerstone of Shōwa-era kaijū cinema, Mothra fused disaster spectacle with a mythic, fairy-tale heart and introduced one of Toho’s most beloved monsters.
Design
A thunderous collage built around Mothra’s imago—compound eyes gleaming, wings ablaze with orange and yellow bands—bearing down over a storm-wracked shoreline. The larva rears beside toppled towers while jets streak the sky and crowds scramble below. The giant bevelled title 「モスラ」 slams down the left column in crimson, with “MOTHRA” in English set by the cast block and the Shobijin vignette anchoring the lower field. Toho branding and campaign credits confirm the 1976 re-issue.
