“Party 7” (PARTY 7), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 2000, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O546
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 2000 for the first theatrical release of Party 7, the surreal crime comedy written and directed by Katsuhito Ishii. Set largely in a single love hotel room observed by two eccentric voyeurs, the film throws together a runaway gangster, his ex‑girlfriend, a mysterious enforcer and an array of oddballs in a kinetic mix of violence, slapstick and pop‑art visuals.
Film background
Party 7 sits in the same stylistic universe as Ishii’s other cult favourites like Shark Skin Man and Peach Hip Girl, blending graphic‑novel energy with Tarantino‑esque crime mayhem and deadpan Japanese humour. The ensemble cast includes Masatoshi Nagase, Tadanobu Asano, Yoshio Harada and Keisuke Horibe, many of whom went on to become icons of contemporary Japanese cinema. Over the years, the film has developed a devoted following for its bold editing, cartoonish violence and imaginative production design.
Poster design
The B2 artwork is a gloriously chaotic painted collage. At the top, an armoured figure in an orange helmet (Captain Banana) looms over a montage of characters and set‑pieces: Nagase’s desperate gangster aiming a pistol, a blazing car, a giant tank of mysterious green fluid in what looks like a train carriage, and a gallery of faces peering out from the shadows. Cutting diagonally across the centre is the huge yellow “PARTY 7” title, rendered like a vintage exploitation one‑sheet. At the bottom, a woman in flared trousers and a striped top lounges on a suitcase with an assault rifle casually in hand, cigarette dangling from her lips. The composition perfectly sells the film’s mix of crime, comedy and pop‑art cool.
