Sale price $695.00

This is an original Japanese offset poster printed in 1984 for the “Daikaku-ji Saga 御流いけばな (Goryū Ikebana) Exhibition” held at Daikaku-ji, the historic Shingon-sect temple in Kyoto. Commissioned by the temple to promote its annual Saga Goryū flower-arrangement showcase, the design is a tour-de-force of Yokoo’s 1980s pop-nihonga style, fusing Buddhist iconography with post-punk collage energy. Ultra-rare in any condition, large-format temple commissions like this seldom appear on the market.

A radiating rising-sun burst of crimson and saffron rays dominates the sheet, converging on a metallic eclipse disc. Collaged across the rays:

  • A sketched guardian-deity head (Nio) brandishes a sword, its arm stamped TADANORI YOKOO in vermilion.

  • Bold roman letters scatter to spell DA I KA KU JI, echoing Dada typography.

  • Kanji 「大覚寺」 anchors the left margin, while small blue kana reference the Saga Goryū ikebana school associated with the temple.

  • An ikebana arrangement (lower left) nods directly to the 1984 exhibition theme—earthly beauty set against cosmic, militaristic rays.

The composition channels wartime “旭日 (kyokujitsu)” banners, Buddhist talismans and punk photomontage into one eye-searing field—quintessential Yokoo.
