New York captures Yokoo’s hallmark pop-surreal collage style: sequential views of the Statue of Liberty rise against a crystalline sky, book-ended by vivid roses and fluttering butterflies that blur the line between postcard nostalgia and psychedelic dreamscape. At the horizon, a photomontage of Manhattan’s skyline floats like a mirage—an emblem of post-war optimism and global modernity. First exhibited in 1968, the design crystallised Yokoo’s fascination with trans-Pacific cultural exchange and helped propel him onto the international stage alongside contemporaries such as Andy Warhol and Frank Stella.

Japan Poster Shop has acquired an exceptional collection of Yokoo originals from one of Japan’s most dedicated collectors—an individual who spent decades preserving these visionary designs. Yokoo, often dubbed “Japan’s Warhol,” revolutionised graphic art with a fusion of ukiyo-e composition, pop-art colour, and avant-garde collage. His poster work for musicians like The Beatles and Miles Davis, and his inclusion in MoMA’s landmark 1968 show “Word and Image,” cemented his global influence.
