The Outlaw (1951) — Original Japanese B2 Poster

This is an original Japanese B2 poster (51 x 73 cm), printed in 1951 for the first Japanese release of The Outlaw — the provocative Western produced and directed by Howard Hughes, starring Jack Buetel, Thomas Mitchell, and Jane Russell in her breakout role.

The film dramatizes the legendary figures Pat Garrett, Doc Holliday, and Billy the Kid, but it's most famous for the way Hughes redefined the Hollywood sex symbol with Jane Russell at its centre. In fact, Hughes infamously designed the first underwire push-up bra specifically for Russell, igniting controversy and fascination alike. Due to its risqué content, the film was denied censorship approval twice before finally receiving release in 1950.

This poster was previously folded but has undergone expert Japanese tissue-backing restoration, a meticulous archival technique that has returned it to excellent condition, with fold lines now barely visible and the paper beautifully stabilized for long-term preservation.

Japanese tissue-backing is a traditional archival method favored in Japan for conserving valuable paper artifacts like vintage prints, ukiyo-e, and posters. It is often preferred over Western-style linen backing for its delicacy and reversibility.

Please refer to the imagery provided — this is the exact poster you will receive.

Now over 70 years old, this is not a reproduction or reprint. Original B2s from the first release are extremely rare, making this an exceptional find for collectors of vintage Japanese cinema and classic Hollywood history.

A Certificate of Authenticity is included.
