“The Spy Who Loved Me” (007/私を愛したスパイ), Original Release Japanese James Bond Poster 1977, B2 Size (51 x 73 cm) A65
This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed for the 1977 release of The Spy Who Loved Me, the tenth official James Bond film. Directed by Lewis Gilbert and starring Roger Moore as 007 alongside Barbara Bach as Soviet agent Anya Amasova, the film pits Bond against shipping magnate and undersea megalomaniac Karl Stromberg and introduces fan‑favourite henchman Jaws, played by Richard Kiel.
Film background
The Spy Who Loved Me finds Bond tracking the disappearance of British and Soviet nuclear submarines. Forced into an uneasy alliance with KGB “Triple‑X” Anya Amasova, Bond’s mission leads from Egypt and Sardinia to Stromberg’s gargantuan supertanker and underwater lair. Known for its enormous sets, sly humour and spectacular gadgets—most notably the Lotus Esprit that converts into a submarine—the film is often cited as one of Roger Moore’s best outings as 007.
Poster design
This Japanese B2 emphasises the series’ blend of glamour and high‑concept action. At the top, two bikini‑clad heroines pose against a blazing explosion as Stromberg’s sea base erupts behind them. The iconic “007” gun logo is rendered in bold red across the centre, with Moore throttling a villain just beneath it. The lower half is dominated by underwater mayhem: submarines in formation, scuba divers and the white Lotus Esprit diving beneath the waves. Roger Moore’s portrait looms large in the foreground, pistol in hand, set against cool blue seas that contrast with the fiery destruction above.
