“The Daring Dobermans” (ドーベルマンギャング2), Original Japanese Movie Poster, 1973 Film, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) J87
This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster for The Daring Dobermans, the 1973 American action-crime film released in Japan under the bold sequel title ドーベルマンギャング2 — Doberman Gang 2. Directed by Byron Chudnow, the film follows on from the cult hit The Doberman Gang, again combining heist-film mechanics with the unusual spectacle of trained Doberman Pinschers used in an elaborate criminal scheme.
Original Japanese posters for 1970s American cult action films are increasingly collectible, and this example is especially appealing for its large Doberman imagery, high-impact Japanese title treatment, and distinctly period crime-thriller design.
Film background
The Daring Dobermans continues the premise of using highly trained Dobermans as part of a daring theft operation. The film stars Charles Knox Robinson, Tim Considine, David Moses, Joan Caulfield, and James Franciscus, and belongs to a particularly eccentric corner of 1970s American genre cinema: part heist film, part animal-action thriller, and part family-adjacent adventure.
In Japan, the film was marketed directly as Doberman Gang 2, clearly positioning it as the sequel to the earlier cult favourite. The Japanese campaign leans into the novelty of the premise: intelligent, disciplined, dangerous dogs carrying out a high-stakes criminal plan.
Poster design
This Japanese B2 uses a wonderfully dramatic montage layout. The centre-left is dominated by a huge snarling Doberman Pinscher, its jaws open and teeth bared, immediately giving the poster strong street-distance impact. Behind it rises the vertical façade of a skyscraper, while Dobermans fitted with green carrying packs leap through the urban environment, suggesting the film’s elaborate heist concept.
At the top, the English title THE DARING DOBERMANS appears in a black header. Beneath it, the Japanese promotional copy asks:
「ジャンプ一閃ドーベルマンが喰らいついた獲物 被害届けの出せぬ莫大な金とは?」
roughly:
“With one sudden leap, the Dobermans seize their prey — what is this enormous sum of money that cannot even be reported stolen?”
The lower section shows a pack of Dobermans gathered with a young boy, additional action stills, and a technical radar-style graphic, giving the poster a mixture of danger, ingenuity, and 1970s gadget-thriller atmosphere. The massive red-and-white Japanese title ドーベルマンギャング2 dominates the bottom of the sheet, with the Toei foreign-film distribution mark visible at lower right.
The result is a striking and unusual Japanese campaign poster: bold, graphic, and unmistakably tied to the offbeat charm of 1970s cult action cinema.
