This is an original Japanese B2 poster (Style A) printed in 1969 for the first domestic theatrical release of The Wild Bunch (ワイルドバンチ), directed by Sam Peckinpah and released in Japan by Warner Bros.–Seven Arts. First-issue Japanese country sheets for Peckinpah’s landmark revisionist western are highly collectible.
Film background
On the Texas–Mexico border in 1913, aging outlaw Pike Bishop (William Holden) leads his gang—Dutch (Ernest Borgnine), the Gorch brothers (Warren Oates, Ben Johnson), and others—toward one last score while pursued by former partner Deke Thornton (Robert Ryan). Famed for its balletic slow-motion violence and elegiac tone, the film reshaped the western genre.
Poster design
Style A features the unforgettable blue dusk silhouette of the Bunch striding across the horizon, dominating the upper field. Below, the massive block-shadowed logotype 「ワイルドバンチ」 spans the width, flanked by cast billing and a strip of four action stills (Borgnine on the machine gun, explosions, train/coach raid). English titling and credits sit above the masthead; distributor marks and the Eirin rating along the footer are classic hallmarks of an authentic first-release sheet with tremendous wall presence.
