“True Account of Hishakaku: A Wolf’s Honor” (実録 飛車角), Original Japanese Movie Poster 1974 First Release, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) E79
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1974 for the first domestic theatrical release of True Account of Hishakaku: A Wolf’s Honor (Japan, 1974), directed by Shinji Murayama from the work of Akira Iiboshi, and starring Bunta Sugawara (with Rie Nakagawa and others). 1970s Toei yakuza first-issue sheets are highly collectible.
Film background
Part of Toei’s gritty “true account” cycle, the film revisits the legend of street tough Hishakaku—a tattooed drifter bound by a harsh code—charting his violent rise, doomed loyalties, and clashes with rival gangs in the post-war underworld. Lean, tough, and steeped in ninkyō/jitsuroku texture, it’s a showcase for Sugawara’s ferocity.
Poster design
A striking high-contrast country sheet: under a vertical torrent of rain, a bare-chested Hishakaku howls, sword at his side, the image cropped against deep black. At lower right a sharp portrait inset adds menace, while documentary textures of rubble and newsprint cue the “true account” framing. The massive brush-stroke title 「実録 飛車角」 slashes across the base in white and blood-red, with vertical tagline and staff credits at right. The Toei logo and Eirin mark along the border are classic hallmarks of an authentic 1974 theatrical sheet with commanding wall presence.
