“Twenty-Four Eyes” (二十四の瞳), Original Roadshow Release Japanese Movie Poster (early 1960s), B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) ZA9

Sale price $200.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster produced for the early-1960s roadshow release of Twenty-Four Eyes (1954), the beloved Shochiku humanist classic written and directed by Keisuke Kinoshita and starring Hideko Takamine. Set on a small island community across the turbulent pre-war and wartime years, the story follows a devoted young schoolteacher and her twelve pupils—an achingly moving portrait of childhood, resilience, and the quiet devastation of a nation changing around them. Long regarded as one of the most emotionally powerful films of post-war Japanese cinema, Twenty-Four Eyes remains a cornerstone title for collectors of serious Japanese film and classic Shochiku dramas.

Poster design

A rare and highly evocative English-language roadshow design—minimal, elegant, and deeply cinematic. The sheet is dominated by expressive brush-style typography reading TWENTY-FOUR EYES, paired with the poignant English tagline at the top: “The most moving story of a devoted female teacher and her twelve small pupils.” The lower half features a beautiful black-and-white photographic image of Takamine standing with the children against a coastal landscape—simple, documentary-like, and emotionally direct. With “A SHOCHIKU FILM” at the bottom and “Printed in Japan” noted, this is a scarce international-facing Japanese issue that presents the film with understated prestige—exceptionally frame-friendly in a modern or gallery setting.
