“Wolves of the City: Blue Soldiers” (不良番長 手八丁口八丁), Original Release Japanese Speed Poster 1971, Speed Poster Size (c. 26 × 73 cm) ZA794
This is an original Japanese tatekan “speed poster” printed in 1971 for Wolves of the City: Blue Soldiers (不良番長 手八丁口八丁), a key entry in Toei’s legendary Furyō Banchō (不良番長) delinquent/yakuza-biker series.
Starring series icon Tatsuo Umemiya (梅宮辰夫), this film sits firmly in the early-’70s Toei “outlaw youth” wave—mixing biker-gang swagger, violence, humour, and sensational set-pieces. The poster’s taglines punch up that tone, including the bold copy at top: 「今度はブルーのソルジャールック!」 (“This time, the blue soldier look!”), and the rallying line about charging ahead under the Dokuro (skull) flag.
Poster design
An absolutely electric, era-defining Toei tatekan design: a provocative central pin-up figure on a motorcycle, the gang leader posed in uniform cap, and a vertical strip of character headshots running down the centre—balanced against action vignettes of mass biker formations and headlights cutting through the night. The giant title 不良番長 dominates in red, paired with the subtitle 手八丁口八丁, and the bold green series branding at left. A superb, wall-ready piece of Japanese biker-cinema graphics in the scarce speed-poster format.
