“Zoltan… Hound of Dracula” (ドラキュラ・ゾルタン), Original Japanese Release Movie Poster 1978, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) P280

Sale price $125.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1978 for the first Japanese theatrical release of Zoltan… Hound of Dracula, released in Japan under the title ドラキュラ・ゾルタン. Directed by Albert Band, the film stars José Ferrer, Michael Pataki, and Reggie Nalder. It is a superbly lurid and highly displayable piece of late-1970s horror paper, with exactly the kind of bold colour, oversized title treatment, and gothic shock imagery that collectors want from Japanese genre posters of the period.

Film background
Originally produced in 1976, the film belongs to that wonderfully strange horror subgenre in which classic vampire mythology collides with contemporary exploitation cinema. The premise is pure cult material: Dracula’s dog becomes a vampiric killer, unleashing a wave of attacks while the descendants of Dracula are drawn into the threat. The film is also known internationally by the alternate title Dracula’s Dog. It is exactly the sort of oddball, memorable late-night horror title that has built a lasting cult following.

Poster design
This Japanese poster is fantastic. The composition is dominated by a huge, looming image of a caped vampire figure standing with a snarling dog beneath a storm-dark sky, immediately giving the sheet strong gothic presence. At lower right, a second horror vignette of attack and panic intensifies the menace, while the giant pink-red ゾルタン title crashes across the bottom with tremendous wall impact. The deep blue-black background, glowing flesh tones, and stark yellow Japanese copy at upper right make the whole design feel theatrical, sensational, and unmistakably 1970s. It is exactly the sort of dramatic Japanese horror poster that frames beautifully.

Condition
Very Good. Please review the photos—they show the exact poster for sale. The poster shows expected original fold wear and age-related handling from period cinema use, including visible fold lines and some light surface wear, but it still presents strongly overall, with rich colour and excellent display appeal.
