The Sound of Music (1965) starring Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer, Eleanor Parker, and Richard Haydn. Julie Andrews is plays a phenomenal role as the nun who leaves an Austrian convent to become a governess of the family of a naval officer widower. Brilliant songs and music, interesting characters, superb direction, and an inspired screenplay all combine to make this one of the American Cinema's ultimate musicals. Although the tone can be very sweet, certainly the final act with the introduction of the Nazis adds a new sense of fear and drama. Everyone loves the fact the Von Trapp family is able to outwit history's ultimate villains. Nominated for 10 Academy Awards including Best Actress for Andrews, the film won five Oscars including Best Picture and Best Director to Wise.
