"Arrietty” (借りぐらしのアリエッティ), Original Japanese DVD & Blu-ray Release Promotion Poster 2011, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O510
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 2011 to promote the first DVD & Blu-ray release of The Secret World of Arrietty (借りぐらしのアリエッティ), the Studio Ghibli feature planned and scripted by Hayao Miyazaki and directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi, adapted from Mary Norton’s novel The Borrowers.
Film background
Released in Japan in 2010, Arrietty follows a family of four-inch-tall “Borrowers” living beneath a country house, and the fragile friendship that forms between Arrietty and a human boy, Shō. A gentle, intimate fantasy compared with Ghibli’s grand epics, the film was a major domestic hit and won Animation of the Year at the Japan Academy Prize.
Poster design
This home‑video campaign artwork immerses Arrietty in a lush wall of ivy and dewdrops, capturing the central conceit of the film: everyday foliage becomes towering jungle when you’re only a few inches high. The vivid red of Arrietty’s dress and hair clip pops against the greens, drawing the eye straight to her as she moves stealthily through the leaves. The large pink title typography sits low and wide across the foliage, balanced by a bright green information band along the bottom detailing the June 17 DVD & Blu‑ray release date and pricing. Studio Ghibli, Disney, and Blu‑ray logos complete the layout, making this a perfect piece for collectors of Ghibli’s physical‑media history.
