Sale price $200.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1986 for the first theatrical release of Be-Bop High School: Koko Yotaro Elegy (ビー・バップ・ハイスクール 高校与太郎哀歌), the second film in the hugely popular Be-Bop High School series based on Kazuhiro Kiuchi’s manga. Directed by Hiroyuki Nasu, written by Machiko Nasu, and distributed by Toei, the film was released in Japan on 9 August 1986 and starred Tōru Nakamura, Kōjiro Shimizu, and Miho Nakayama.

Film background
Following the breakout success of the first film, this second instalment returns to the delinquent-school world of Hiroshi and Tōru, the Aitoku High tough-guy duo, as they clash with rival bad boys from Joto Technical High. Japanese film sources describe it as a direct continuation of the first hit, again adapted from Kiuchi’s manga, with the same director and screenwriter returning, and Miho Nakayama performing the theme song “JINGI・愛してもらいます.” The film runs approximately 95 minutes and remains one of the defining screen entries in the 1980s yankii boom.

Poster design
This is a superb and highly graphic original release design. Rather than using photographic montage, the poster leans into the manga roots of the property with oversized illustrated portraits of the two leads, set against a blazing orange sky and surrounded by sharply coloured character boxes. The huge red Japanese lettering crashes across the sheet with enormous energy, perfectly matching the film’s brash, confrontational delinquent style. It is an especially strong country-of-origin design for collectors of 1980s Japanese youth cinema, manga adaptations, and bold pop-art poster graphics.
