“Destroy All Monsters” (怪獣総進撃), Original Japanese First Release Movie Poster 1968, Toho, Dead Stock, Very Rare, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O170

Sale price $1,150.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1968 for the first theatrical release of Destroy All Monsters (怪獣総進撃), one of the greatest and most ambitious Showa-era Toho kaijū films. Directed by Ishirō Honda, with special effects by Eiji Tsuburaya, the film remains a landmark of Japanese monster cinema for its extraordinary scale, all-star creature lineup, and climactic battle spectacle.

This particular example is exceptional: an unused cinema dead-stock poster, sourced directly from the remaining inventory of a theatre that has since closed. First-release Toho B2 posters from the 1960s are already highly sought-after; finding one in this kind of mint, unused, cinema dead-stock condition is another level entirely.

Film background
Released in 1968, Destroy All Monsters brings together many of Toho’s most famous monsters in one spectacular feature. Set in the then-future year of 1999, the film imagines Earth’s kaijū living under scientific control on Monsterland, only for alien invaders known as the Kilaaks to seize command of the creatures and unleash them against major cities around the world.

The film features an extraordinary roster including Godzilla, Minilla, Rodan, Mothra, Anguirus, Manda, Baragon, Varan, Gorosaurus, Kumonga, and King Ghidorah. Its climactic Mount Fuji battle remains one of the most celebrated ensemble sequences in Toho monster history, making the film a definitive crossover event and a cult favourite among Godzilla collectors.

Poster design
This is one of the great classic Toho kaijū poster designs. The artwork presents a densely packed monster battle beneath a dramatic night sky, with Godzilla, King Ghidorah, Rodan, Mothra, Manda, Anguirus, Minilla, Gorosaurus, Baragon, Varan, and Kumonga all brought together in a single explosive composition. Each monster is labelled in Japanese, emphasising the unprecedented scale of Toho’s all-star creature lineup.

The bold red title 怪獣総進撃 dominates the upper half of the poster, while the top copy announces:

「謎のキラアク星人出現!宇宙をゆるがす11大怪獣の大激闘!」
“The mysterious Kilaaks appear! A great battle of eleven giant monsters shakes the universe!”

The Moonlight SY-3 spacecraft streaks across the top of the image, while the Toho roundel appears at upper right. Human cast imagery and production credits anchor the lower margin, completing a design that perfectly captures the promise of Toho’s most ambitious monster spectacle of the 1960s.

Rarity and condition
This poster is a genuine mint cinema dead-stock survivor. It was never displayed, giving it a clean, crisp, refined presentation with striking “gallery wall” impact. The design is especially effective in high grade, balancing dense, saturated kaijū action above with the pale lower credit area beneath.

Dead-stock first-release Toho B2s from the 1960s are genuinely difficult to secure, and this is exactly the kind of high-grade example collectors wait years to find.

Condition
Mint / unused cinema dead-stock condition. Please review the photos; they show the exact poster for sale, including both the front and reverse.
