“Going Steady” (ゴーイング・ステディ), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1979, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O559
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1979 for the Japanese theatrical release of Going Steady, the second film in the hit teen series that followed the success of Lemon Popsicle.
Film background
Set in 1950s Israel, Going Steady continues the misadventures of three teenage friends—Benji, Bobby and Huey—as they navigate first love, hormones and humiliation. The film combines raunchy humour with genuine coming‑of‑age moments and remains a nostalgic favourite among fans of 1970s teen comedies and the Eskimo Limon series.
Poster design
The Japanese B2 artwork is a riot of pop‑art colour and retro Americana. At the centre, Tammy and Benji gaze into each other’s eyes while a jukebox, diner sign, hot‑rod, motorbikes and comic vignettes swirl around them against a bright blue sky. Down below, the boys stand sheepishly in improvised “outfits” after yet another embarrassing scrape. The illustration is packed with playful detail. With artwork by artist Kazuo Yuasa, whose name appears in a star‑shaped cartouche in the lower right corner. It’s both a film poster and a striking piece of late‑70s Japanese graphic design.
The distinctive Yuasa artwork and vivid colour palette make this a standout piece for collectors of vintage illustration and cult youth films.
