“La Piscine” (太陽が知っている), Original Japanese First Release Movie Poster 1969, Rare, B2 Size (c. 51 × 73 cm) O658
This is an original Japanese B2 poster issued in Japan for the first domestic theatrical release of La Piscine (1969), Jacques Deray’s sun-drenched psychological thriller—starring Alain Delon and Romy Schneider, with Maurice Ronet and Jane Birkin. Set against the languid heat of the French Riviera, the film is an exercise in cool erotic tension and slow-burn menace—now widely regarded as one of the most stylish European thrillers of its era and a cult fashion-cinema touchstone.
Poster design
A breathtaking, design-forward Japanese campaign built around pure 1960s glamour. Oversized, soft-focus portraits of Delon and Schneider dominate the composition—both wearing dark sunglasses, their faces rendered like fashion photography—cool, impenetrable, and emotionally distant. Behind them, a shimmering aqua-green “water” field and a glowing sun-disc evoke the pool’s surface and the film’s oppressive Riviera heat, while a small silhouetted aircraft slices across the sky like a knife—an elegant, ominous detail. The typography is equally striking: the Japanese title 「太陽が知っている」 (“The Sun Knows”) appears in bold, expressive pink calligraphy across the lower field, contrasted by clean supporting credits and a small inset vignette of the lovers at bottom left. It’s a superbly balanced sheet—minimal, seductive, and unmistakably late-’60s—making it an exceptional display poster for collectors of Delon/Schneider, French New Wave-adjacent cinema, and design-led international one-sheets.
