This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed for the first Japanese theatrical release of Seven Times Seven (新・黄金の七人 7×7), the stylish Italian crime caper released in 1968 as Sette volte sette. The film belongs to the wider Golden Seven cycle and was produced by Marco Vicario, with Michele Lupo directing. Japanese sources record its first domestic theatrical release as 15 March 1969 through Towa.
Film background
Seven Times Seven is a colourful European heist comedy about a criminal gang that engineers a prison escape in order to pull off a bold counterfeit-money operation. The film stars Gastone Moschin, Adolfo Celi, Gordon Mitchell, and Terry-Thomas, with music by Armando Trovajoli, whose score helped define the breezy, jazzy tone associated with this whole run of Italian crime entertainment. Although connected in spirit to the earlier Golden Seven films, it reworks the formula with a fresh cast and a more overtly comic, ensemble-driven approach.
Poster design
This is a superb and highly graphic original Japanese release design. The composition centres on a striking collage of British banknotes, surveillance imagery, London iconography, and criminal faces, all orbiting around the glamorous central female figure in bowler hat and telephone. The red double-decker bus, the giant circular banknote motif, and the bold red-and-black Japanese title give the sheet tremendous period character, while the busy montage perfectly captures the film’s playful mix of heist mechanics, European glamour, and pop-art energy. It is an especially attractive country-of-origin poster for collectors of 1960s Italian crime cinema and visually inventive Japanese poster design.
