"Red Peony Gambler: Second-Generation Succession", Original Release Japanese Speed Poster 1970, Speed Poster Size (c.26 cm × 75 cm) N43
This is an original Japanese poster printed in 1970 for the first release of Red Peony Gambler: Second-Generation Succession (緋牡丹博徒 二代目襲名), the fifth instalment in Toei’s popular Oryu ninkyō-eiga series.
Film background
Picking up after Oryu’s Return, the story finds sword-wielding gambler Oryu (Junko Fuji) pressed to accept the mantle of second-generation boss, drawing her into a brutal feud between rival yakuza clans. Combining chambara swordplay with melodrama, the film cemented Oryu’s status as one of cinema’s most iconic female vigilantes.
Poster design
This vertical collage pairs a striking close-up of Ken Takakura with a full-length image of Junko Fuji brandishing both pistol and katana. Hand-brushed scarlet title characters slash across the lower half, set against a white field; inset stills of knife duels and tattooed rivals frame a peony-pattern backdrop—visual shorthand for loyalty and blood debt in yakuza lore.
