"Roman Holiday" (ローマの休日), Original Re-Release Japanese Movie Poster 1970, Speed Size (26 × 73 cm) O557

Sale price $125.00

This is an original Japanese speed poster printed for a vintage re‑release of William Wyler’s timeless classic Roman Holiday, starring Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck.

Film background

Released in 1953, Roman Holiday follows Princess Ann, a sheltered royal who escapes her official duties while on a visit to Rome and spends a magical day exploring the city with an American reporter, Joe Bradley. The film launched Audrey Hepburn to stardom, winning her the Academy Award for Best Actress and establishing the movie as one of the definitive romantic comedies of all time. Its blend of location shooting in Rome, sparkling dialogue and bittersweet ending has made it a favourite for generations.

Poster design

This tall, elegant speed poster makes Hepburn the clear focus. A large, beautifully rendered portrait of her in tiara and necklace dominates the upper section, framed by ornate scrollwork and Roman architecture, while smaller vignettes below capture key romantic and comic moments with Gregory Peck. The Japanese title runs vertically alongside, reinforcing the sense of height. Speed posters were designed for narrow lobby spaces, and this one has a graceful, almost fashion‑magazine feel that suits Hepburn perfectly.

Rarity and condition

Japanese speed posters were printed in far smaller quantities than standard B2s and often discarded after use, so surviving examples—especially for enduring classics like Roman Holiday—are hard to find. This piece is ideal for collectors of Audrey Hepburn memorabilia or anyone looking for a tall, striking artwork for a hallway or narrow wall.

This poster is in very good / excellent vintage condition, with strong colour and only minor handling and fold wear consistent with age (please refer to the imagery of the exact poster for sale).

It is over 45 years old.

It is not a reproduction or a reprint.

Certificate of Authenticity included.
