“Cool Runnings” (クール・ランニング), Original Japanese First-Release Movie Poster 1994, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) I298

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster produced for the 1994 first Japanese release of Disney’s Cool Runnings. Directed by Jon Turteltaub, the film stars Leon, Doug E. Doug, Rawle D. Lewis and Malik Yoba, with John Candy as the team’s reluctant coach.

Loosely inspired by Jamaica’s participation in the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics, the film follows four unlikely competitors as they attempt to establish themselves in the unfamiliar world of bobsledding. Their journey combines comedy with a heartfelt story of friendship, perseverance and national pride. Candy’s warm performance and the camaraderie between the four teammates give the film its enduring appeal.

The poster captures that spirit through a playful photograph of the team huddled together in colourful tropical clothing against a snowy landscape. Their expressions and defensive poses convey the shock of the cold, while a bobsled stretches behind them beneath distant mountain peaks and a deep blue sky.

Across the top, the bold yellow Japanese headline 「ジャマイカ人が、ボブスレーだって!?」 translates as “Jamaicans—in a bobsled?!” The smaller white line beneath introduces the real Jamaican team’s Olympic debut, establishing the extraordinary premise for Japanese audiences.

The large Japanese title occupies the lower section in green, yellow and red, framed by black zigzag borders. A small cartoon bobsled trails a matching three-colour ribbon across the sheet, linking the photographic image with the lively title treatment. The English title, Walt Disney Pictures presentation credit and original Japanese theatrical billing complete the design.

Excellent condition, close to Near Mint. A beautifully preserved example with strong colour, a clean overall appearance and only very minor signs of handling. Once framed, this poster will display excellently.
