Original Japanese Disney Movie Posters — Rare & Vintage

Explore Japan Poster Shop’s exceptional collection of original Japanese Disney movie posters, featuring rare first-release theatrical artwork, historically significant vintage designs and highly collectible posters spanning the extraordinary history of Walt Disney animation and cinema.

From the pioneering animated masterpieces of Walt Disney to the celebrated productions of the Disney Renaissance and beyond, our collection brings together original Japanese theatrical posters for some of the most beloved and influential films in cinema history.

Of particular significance are our holdings of exceptionally rare original Japanese first-release Disney posters, including early theatrical material associated with celebrated classics such as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), Pinocchio (1940), Fantasia (1940), Dumbo (1941), Bambi (1942) and other landmark productions. Original Japanese posters from these early theatrical campaigns are among the most elusive examples of Disney film advertising, with surviving first-release designs particularly prized by serious collectors.

Our collection also encompasses original Japanese posters for later Disney classics, including Cinderella (1950), Alice in Wonderland (1951), Peter Pan (1953), Sleeping Beauty (1959), One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961), The Jungle Book (1967) and numerous other celebrated animated films.

The collection extends into the Disney Renaissance and modern era, featuring original Japanese theatrical artwork for internationally acclaimed productions such as The Little Mermaid (1989), Beauty and the Beast (1991), Aladdin (1992), The Lion King (1994) and subsequent Disney releases.

Japanese Disney posters are particularly admired for their distinctive illustrations, vibrant colours, expressive typography and alternative compositions, often differing substantially from the artwork produced for American and European theatrical campaigns. These original designs offer a fascinating perspective on the reception and promotion of Disney cinema in Japan.

Our holdings include rare Japanese first-release theatrical posters, original B2 and B1 formats, vintage promotional designs, early reissue posters, unused examples and exceptionally scarce advertising material. Certain early Japanese Disney posters survive in extremely limited numbers, with outstanding-condition examples becoming increasingly difficult to acquire.

Beyond their appeal as film memorabilia, these posters represent important surviving artefacts of animation history, Japanese graphic design and the international cultural legacy of Walt Disney. The earliest and rarest examples are particularly suitable for serious private collections and institutional consideration.

Every poster offered by Japan Poster Shop is an authentic original, carefully sourced in Japan and individually catalogued. We do not sell reproductions. All posters are accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity, with worldwide DHL Express shipping available from our gallery in Tokyo.
