"AKIRA – DTS Sound Edition", Original DVD Release Japanese Movie Poster 2002, B2 Size (51 x 73cm) L260

Sale price $300.00

This is an original Japanese poster printed in 2001 for the promotion of the release of Akira DVD Special Edition.

A bold and unforgettable original Japanese B2-size promotional poster for the AKIRA: DTS Sound Edition DVD release, issued on December 21, 2002 to mark the 20th anniversary of the original manga's debut in 1982. Commissioned by Pioneer LDC, this limited-edition release featured a newly remastered DTS audio track and a striking new illustration by Otomo protégé and acclaimed illustrator Katsuya Terada.

The artwork depicts protagonist Kaneda seated atop a throne of mangled machinery and rubble, surrounded by the remains of Neo-Tokyo — a callback to both the film’s cyberpunk ruin and the raw, uncompromising tone of Otomo’s dystopian vision. His iconic red jacket and motorcycle helmet rest among broken tech, wires, and debris, hinting at the devastation wrought by unchecked power and rebellion.

Typography across the poster emphasizes its definitive audio upgrade with the line:
「これが本当のAKIRAだ」 — “This is the real AKIRA.”

Below, a bold silver-gray font advertises the DVD’s ¥3,800 price point and release date (12.21), along with limited-edition details: a deluxe slipcase, newly illustrated jacket, and bonus content only available with the first pressing.

This poster was used exclusively in Japanese retail and media outlets to promote the DTS edition — not sold to the public — and has become a sought-after collectible for fans of Otomo, Japanese cyberpunk, and anime's most iconic cinematic achievement.

It is over 23 years old!
