Sale price $375.00

This is an original Japanese poster printed in 1968 for the first release of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the British musical fantasy film directed by Ken Hughes and produced by Albert R. Broccoli.

Based on the 1964 novel by Ian Fleming (creator of James Bond), with a screenplay co-written by Roald Dahl, the film tells the whimsical story of eccentric inventor Caractacus Potts, his children, and the magical flying car Chitty Chitty Bang Bang as they embark on an adventure to save Grandpa Potts from the villainous Baron Bomburst. The movie is celebrated for its memorable songs by the Sherman Brothers, colourful production design, and enduring appeal as a family classic.

This Japanese B2-size poster was issued exclusively for the 1968 theatrical release in Japan. The vibrant design features the iconic flying car soaring above the countryside, with Caractacus Potts (Dick Van Dyke), Truly Scrumptious (Sally Ann Howes), and the Potts children waving from the open top. The bold red and yellow wing graphics and propellers convey the film’s sense of fun and fantasy, while the title is displayed prominently in dynamic Japanese typography along the left side.
