"Rodan", Original Re-Release Japanese Movie Poster 1976, B2 Size (51 x 73cm) N97

Sale price $125.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1976 for the theatrical re-release of Rodan (空の大怪獣ラドン), the 1956 kaiju classic directed by Ishirō Honda and produced by Toho.

Rodan marked Toho’s first kaiju film shot in colour and told the story of a supersonic pterosaur unleashed from a volcanic eruption in Kyushu, wreaking havoc on Japan. Featuring groundbreaking special effects by Eiji Tsuburaya, the film was a landmark in Japanese science fiction cinema and expanded Toho’s monster universe beyond Godzilla. The 1976 re-release brought the film back to theatres for a new generation of kaiju fans, capitalising on the continued popularity of giant monster films during the Showa era.

The poster’s dynamic design captures the chaos of Rodan’s attacks, with the mighty creature soaring above erupting volcanoes, firing military weapons, and scenes of panic below—including battles with other giant creatures. The dramatic composition, bold red title typography, and vibrant Eastmancolor imagery embody the high-energy visual style of mid-Showa Toho marketing.
