This is an original Japanese poster printed in 1968 for the first release of The Bride from Hades.

The Bride from Hades (Japanese title: 牡丹燈籠, Botan Dōrō) is a 1968 Japanese supernatural horror film produced by Daiei Film and directed by Satsuo Yamamoto. It is based on the classic Japanese ghost tale Botan Doro — a chilling story of love beyond the grave that has been told and reimagined in countless kabuki plays and horror films.

Set during the Obon festival, the film follows Hagiwara Shinzaburo, a lonely samurai who falls in love with the beautiful courtesan Otsuyu. Unbeknownst to him, Otsuyu is already dead — a ghost bound to him by a curse and undying obsession. As their eerie romance deepens, the boundary between the living and the dead dissolves, leading to tragic and terrifying consequences.

This elegant and atmospheric adaptation is one of the more refined interpretations of the kaidan genre during the 1960s boom in Japanese horror, known for its rich visuals, haunting mood, and tragic romance.
