"Kikujiro" (菊次郎の夏), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1999, B1 Size (c. 71 × 103 cm)

Sale price $350.00

This is an original Japanese poster printed in 1999 for the first theatrical release of Kikujiro. Posters in this oversize B1 format were produced in far smaller numbers than the standard B2 and are exceptionally hard to find today, especially in collectible condition.

Kikujiro (Japanese title: Kikujirō no Natsu—“Kikujirō’s Summer”) is a gentle road-movie comedy–drama written, directed by, and starring Takeshi Kitano. The score—one of the film’s most beloved elements—was composed by longtime collaborator Joe Hisaishi. Premiering at the 1999 Cannes Film Festival, the film follows nine-year-old Masao and the unlikely guardian “Kikujiro” on a quixotic summer quest to find the boy’s estranged mother. Structured as diary-like chapters, the story drifts through bittersweet encounters and off-beat slapstick, balancing Kitano’s trademark melancholy with warmth suitable for the whole family.
