This is an original Japanese B1 poster issued in Japan for the theatrical release of Rhapsody in August (1991), Akira Kurosawa’s haunting late-era drama—an essential work in his final film period, and one of the most emotionally resonant portrayals of post-war memory ever put on screen. B1-size examples are extremely hard to find, and this is a particularly desirable variant for collectors due to its minimalist, design-forward presentation.
Poster design
A striking, modernist composition defined by negative space and texture: the upper field is clean and pale, carrying the English title Rhapsody in August with elegant credit typography (AKIRA KUROSAWA prominently featured), while the lower two-thirds becomes a mesmerizing “sea” of wind-swept green grass—rippling like waves.
