"Son of Godzilla", Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1967, B2 Size (51 x 73cm) N77
This is an original Japanese poster printed in 1967 for the first release of Son of Godzilla (Japanese: 怪獣島の決戦 ゴジラの息子, Kaijūtō no Kessen: Gojira no Musuko).
Film background
Son of Godzilla is the eighth film in Toho’s Godzilla series, directed by Jun Fukuda with special effects under Eiji Tsuburaya’s supervision. Set on Solgell Island, a weather-control experiment goes awry, mutating giant mantises (Kamacuras/カマキラス) and unleashing the giant spider Kumonga/クモンガ. Godzilla arrives to protect his newly hatched son Minilla/ミニラ, and the parent-child duo take on the new kaijū threats.
Poster design
A dynamic montage shows Godzilla and Minilla unleashing their breath attacks amid island chaos, with yellow callouts naming the creatures (ゴジラ / ミニラ / カマキラス / クモンガ). The vivid, photo-collage style and towering red title typography are classic late-Shōwa Toho design—eye-popping on the wall.
Special provenance – hand-painted theater snipe
This example retains its original, brush-painted playdate strip pasted along the bottom margin.
Translation of the snipe:
「舟木一夫の『君に幸福を』 3日〜8日 上映/金剛」
= “Kazuo Funaki’s Kimi ni Kōfuku o (Happiness to You) — showing from the 3rd to the 8th at Kongō [Theater].”
It’s a super-cool piece of exhibition history that you can choose to display openly, or simply fold under the mat so it’s hidden when framing.
