International Cinema ā Original Japanese Movie Posters
Explore Japan Poster Shopās extensive collection of original Japanese movie posters for international cinema, featuring rare and highly collectible theatrical artwork for films from Europe, North and South America, Asia and beyond.
For more than a century, Japan has maintained a rich tradition of exhibiting and promoting international cinema, often producing distinctive theatrical posters that differ considerably from those issued in a filmās country of origin. These original Japanese designs are celebrated by collectors for their exceptional graphic design, striking compositions, distinctive typography and unique interpretations of world cinema.
Our collection encompasses an extraordinary range of European cinema, including celebrated works of Italian, French, British, German, Spanish and Scandinavian filmmaking. From Italian Neorealism and the French New Wave to European art-house cinema, influential independent productions and major international film movements, Japanese theatrical posters offer a fascinating visual record of how these films were introduced to audiences in Japan.
Of particular significance are original Japanese posters for the works of legendary international filmmakers such as Federico Fellini, Michelangelo Antonioni, Luchino Visconti, Vittorio De Sica, Jean-Luc Godard, FranƧois Truffaut, Ingmar Bergman, Andrei Tarkovsky, Luis BuƱuel and many others.
Our holdings also encompass American and British cinema, from classic Hollywood and celebrated directors such as Alfred Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick, John Ford and Orson Welles to major international franchises, cult cinema and independent films.
Beyond Europe and North America, the collection celebrates the remarkable diversity of Asian, South American and world cinema, including influential filmmakers, important national film movements and acclaimed international productions that received theatrical distribution in Japan.
Our extensive selection includes rare first-release Japanese theatrical posters, original B2 and B1 formats, exceptionally scarce STB Tatekan posters, large-format billboards, advance promotional designs and unusual advertising material. Many early Japanese posters for international art-house and independent films were produced for comparatively limited theatrical distribution, making surviving examples particularly desirable among collectors.
From celebrated masterpieces of world cinema to obscure and seldom-seen international releases, these posters represent an important intersection of film history, Japanese graphic design and international cultural exchange.
Every poster offered by Japan Poster Shop is an authentic original, carefully sourced in Japan and individually catalogued. We do not sell reproductions. All posters are accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity, with worldwide DHL Express shipping available from our gallery in Tokyo.
