“Diamonds Are Forever” (007 ダイヤモンドは永遠に), 1971 Japanese STB Tatekan Poster (First Release), Rare, STB Size (c. 51 × 145 cm) C32
This is an original Japanese STB tatekan (two-panel standing) poster issued in Japan for Diamonds Are Forever, the 1971 James Bond adventure directed by Guy Hamilton, and featuring the celebrated campaign artwork of Robert McGinnis. Produced in the dramatic STB format (20 x 57 in / c. 51 x 145 cm), it is one of the most striking large-format Japanese Bond posters of the era—combining oversized 007 branding, McGinnis glamour, and the film’s full sci-fi/action spectacle into one towering vertical design.
Important note on authenticity
This is a 100% original 1971 Japanese theatrical poster. It is not a reproduction or a reprint, but genuine first-release Japanese cinema paper from the film’s original release campaign.
Film background
Released in 1971, Diamonds Are Forever sees Sean Connery return as Bond in a plot that follows a diamond-smuggling trail from Europe to Las Vegas, where 007 uncovers Blofeld’s plan to use the stolen gems in a laser satellite extortion scheme. The film stars Sean Connery, Jill St. John, Charles Gray, Lana Wood, Jimmy Dean, and Bruce Cabot, with music by John Barry and the title song performed by Shirley Bassey.
Poster design
A superb example of Robert McGinnis Bond imagery at full scale: the upper panel is dominated by Bond-era glamour and space-age fantasy, with a huge satellite dish, Earth suspended above a deep black sky, sparkling starbursts, helicopters, and the central tuxedoed Bond figure flanked by two women. The lower panel shifts into pure 1970s action spectacle—an exploding oil rig, giant orange 007 gun-logo typography, bold magenta Japanese title lettering, a moon-buggy chase tearing across the desert, and missiles blasting skyward at the far right. It is everything collectors want from Bond paper of this period: glamour, gadgetry, destruction, and instant wall power. McGinnis’s artwork was central to the film’s poster campaign, and the moon-buggy / space-age elements were a key part of how the film was marketed.
Rarity and condition
Japanese STB tatekan posters are a scarce large-format Bond format, and this first-release 1971 example is especially desirable for carrying the McGinnis artwork in its full vertical presentation.
Condition is excellent overall for its age. Additional imagery has been provided to show a tiny tear, but aside from that the poster presents beautifully, with strong colour and outstanding display impact.
