"Helga – Mysteries of the Female Body" (女体の神秘), Original First-Release Japanese Movie Poster 1982, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) M151
This is an original Japanese poster printed in 1982 for the domestic release of the West-German colour documentary Helga – Vom Werden des menschlichen Lebens (“Helga – From Conception to Birth”), the first mainstream feature to show the entire human-birth process on screen.
A striking pop-art collage of foetal imagery, breastfeeding, delivery-room close-ups and painted nudes conveys the film’s then-controversial promise to reveal “everything about a woman’s body and the moving moment of birth.” Taglines down the sides proclaim:
「ウーマンズ・ボディのすべてと感動あふれる“出産”の瞬間!」
“All about the woman’s body — and the emotional moment of childbirth!”
「生まれる!いま…全世界が興奮した生命誕生のスーパー・ドキュメント!」
“Being born — now! The super-documentary on the miracle that thrilled the whole world!”
Premiering in Japan the year after its German debut, Helga attracted huge audiences and helped launch the country’s late-1960s sex-education film boom.
It is over 43 years old!
