Original Japanese Godzilla & Kaiju Movie Posters

Godzilla and kaiju cinema represent one of the most important and internationally recognised traditions in Japanese film history. From the birth of Godzilla in 1954 through the Showa, Heisei, Millennium and modern eras, Japanese theatrical posters for these films have produced some of the most dramatic and collectible imagery in cinema.

Japan Poster Shop holds an extensive collection of original Japanese Godzilla and kaiju movie posters, ranging from exceptionally rare first-release material from the 1950s through to contemporary theatrical campaigns.

Among the most important pieces in our collection are original Japanese first-release posters for Godzilla (1954), including both the celebrated Head Office style and the exceptionally rare Regional style. These early posters represent the beginning of one of cinema’s most enduring franchises and are among the most historically significant pieces of Japanese monster-film advertising.

Our holdings also include rare original material for Godzilla Raids Again (1955) and subsequent Showa-era films featuring legendary kaiju including Mothra, Rodan, King Ghidorah and Mechagodzilla, alongside later Heisei and Millennium productions and modern films such as Shin Godzilla and Godzilla Minus One.

The collection extends beyond Godzilla to the wider world of Japanese kaiju and tokusatsu, including original posters for Ultraman, Mirrorman, Gamera and other celebrated monster and special-effects productions.

Formats range from original Japanese B2 and B1 theatrical posters to scarce STB Tatekan, B0 and other large-format advertising. The earliest first-release examples, particularly rare 1950s designs and unusual regional variants, can be exceptionally difficult to acquire and are important artefacts of Japanese cinema and graphic design history.

From museum-grade first releases to more accessible later posters, this collection documents more than seventy years of Japanese kaiju cinema through authentic original theatrical artwork.

Each poster is carefully sourced and individually catalogued in Japan, with attention to authenticity, original release history, format, condition and rarity.
