Original Japanese Meiko Kaji Movie Posters

Meiko Kaji (梶芽衣子, born 1947) is one of the defining icons of 1970s Japanese cinema, celebrated for her extraordinary screen presence, distinctive visual style and unforgettable performances across action, exploitation, yakuza and revenge cinema.

Her most celebrated films include the Female Prisoner Scorpion series, beginning with Female Prisoner #701: Scorpion (1972), as well as Lady Snowblood (1973), Lady Snowblood: Love Song of Vengeance (1974), Blind Woman’s Curse (1970) and the Stray Cat Rock series. These films have become internationally recognised cult classics, with Kaji’s image and performances exerting a lasting influence on filmmakers, musicians, fashion and popular culture.

Japan Poster Shop holds one of our most extensive actress-focused collections of original Japanese Meiko Kaji movie posters, covering a remarkable range of titles from throughout her career. Our holdings include rare first-release B2 theatrical posters, large-format B1 and B0 posters, exceptionally scarce theatrical billboards, Speed posters and other unusual promotional formats.

Particular strengths include original Japanese posters from the Female Prisoner Scorpion, Lady Snowblood and Stray Cat Rock series. Many of these designs feature some of the boldest and most recognisable imagery of 1970s Japanese cinema, combining dramatic portrait photography, vivid colour and powerful Japanese typography.

Original first-release posters for Kaji’s most important films have become increasingly sought after by collectors of Japanese cult cinema and graphic design. The larger B0 and billboard formats are particularly scarce, having been produced in smaller quantities for prominent theatrical display and rarely surviving in strong condition.

From accessible B2 examples to museum-grade large-format rarities, this collection documents the extraordinary visual legacy of one of Japan’s most iconic screen performers.

Each poster is carefully sourced and individually catalogued in Japan, with attention to authenticity, original release history, format, condition and rarity.
