“Female Convict Scorpion: Beast Stable” (女囚さそり けもの部屋), Original Japanese First-Release Movie Poster 1973, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) P67

Sale price $600.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1973 for the first release of Female Convict Scorpion: Beast Stable (女囚さそり けもの部屋), the third film in Toei’s legendary Female Prisoner Scorpion / Joshū Sasori series. Starring the incomparable Meiko Kaji and directed by Shunya Itō—the duo who defined the series’ hypnotic blend of exploitation cinema, graphic stylisation, and feminist rage—this 1973 instalment pushes the franchise into even darker, more surreal territory, cementing its cult status worldwide.

Design
A superb, graphic, pop-art-inflected Japanese design that feels closer to underground illustration than conventional studio advertising. Against a green halftone field, Kaji’s Scorpion appears as a black, windswept silhouette—wide-brim hat, cloak-like coat—set within a framed “scene” of painterly urban texture and slashing red-white diagonal energy. A huge crow dominates the lower foreground while smaller birds scatter across the sky, reinforcing the film’s ominous, predatory mood. The jagged pink title 「女囚さそり」 at top, paired with the subtitle 「けもの部屋」, gives the poster a razor-sharp 1970s edge—one of the most visually striking campaign designs in the entire series.
