This is an original Japanese Speed poster printed in 1973 for the release of Female Prisoner Scorpion 701: Grudge Song (女囚さそり 701号怨み節), the fourth film in Toei’s legendary Female Prisoner Scorpion / Joshū Sasori series. Starring the incomparable Meiko Kaji and directed by Yasuharu Hasebe (長谷部安春), this entry continues the franchise’s ferocious blend of stylised exploitation, revenge mythology, and graphic modernist design—one of the most iconic cult cycles of 1970s Japanese cinema.

Design
A superb, ultra-graphic vertical composition designed perfectly for the Speed format: Kaji’s Scorpion stands front-facing in a long black coat, shotgun in hand, haloed by an intense orange glow that cuts her silhouette from the dark ground. At her side, a prowling black panther advances from the shadows—an unforgettable emblem of menace and inevitability. The bold, angular title typography 「女囚さそり」 runs vertically in electric blue, with 「701号怨み節」 in vivid orange-red—creating a striking two-colour typographic punch that feels both pop and brutal. A phenomenal piece of Toei-era graphic design, and a rare survivor in this elongated cinema display format.
