This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 2002 for the first release of Ghiblies Episode 2 (ギブリーズ episode2), Studio Ghibli’s playful “mockumentary-style” animated short directed by Yoshiyuki Momose. It was screened theatrically in Japan as the companion short to The Cat Returns (猫の恩返し), following the earlier Ghiblies project produced two years prior.
Design
A warm, nostalgic, storybook-like design: a class photo tableau of the Ghiblies team rendered in soft pencil-and-watercolour tones, set in front of an old school building—quietly humorous, gently self-mythologising, and perfectly aligned with the short’s faux-documentary concept. The simple vertical line 「ふとふり返ると。」 (“When you turn back / looking back…”) adds a reflective note, while the bold title 「ギブリーズ episode 2」 anchors the lower field in bright, playful typography. A charming, design-forward Ghibli theatrical sheet that displays beautifully.
