“After War Gundam X — SIDE.1” (機動新世紀ガンダムX), Original Japanese Soundtrack Promotional Poster 1996, Artwork by Nobuyoshi Nishimura, B2 Size (72.8 × 51.5 cm) — T225
This is an original Japanese B2 landscape-format promotional poster for After War Gundam X — SIDE.1, the first soundtrack album accompanying the 1996 television anime series. Released by King Records on 24 July 1996, the album features music by Yasuo Higuchi.
The poster’s illustration is explicitly credited to Nobuyoshi Nishimura (西村誠芳), the series’ character designer. Its combination of delicate line drawing and richly textured colour makes it a particularly distinctive piece of Gundam artwork.
Set fifteen years after a devastating war, After War Gundam X follows Garrod Ran and Tiffa Adill through a world still living with the consequences of mass destruction. Their developing relationship gives the series an emotional centre, alongside its exploration of Newtypes, survival and the possibility of rebuilding society.
Nishimura’s composition brings these human and mechanical elements together in three adjoining vertical panels. Garrod fills the left section, smiling against a predominantly blue background. The Gundam X occupies the centre, its angular armour and mechanical details drawn over a mottled field of yellow, blue and grey. Tiffa appears on the right, her quieter expression set against warm ochre and peach tones.
Fine, sketch-like outlines allow the printed painterly textures to remain visible through the figures. Broad strokes, scraped-looking patches and uneven layers of colour give the image the appearance of a working artist’s canvas. The contrast between Garrod’s open expression and Tiffa’s introspective portrait adds warmth and character to the balanced arrangement.
The bold black “AFTER WAR GUNDAM X” logo sits across the upper centre, with the Japanese title and “SIDE.1” designation directly beneath it. The small illustration credit along the lower edge leaves the artwork largely uninterrupted.
The landscape format gives each subject room to breathe, making this an especially attractive display piece for collectors of Gundam X, Nobuyoshi Nishimura, anime soundtrack memorabilia and Japanese illustration of the 1990s.
Condition: Excellent.
The poster retains clear linework and strong colour throughout. There are light handling creases and gentle paper undulations, most apparent on the reverse, together with minor edge wear and a few faint marks. The textured artwork presents beautifully.
