“Mobile Suit Gundam III: Encounters in Space” (機動戦士ガンダムIII めぐりあい宇宙), Original Japanese First-Release Movie Poster 1982, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) — T210

Sale price $160.00

This is an original Japanese B2 promotional poster produced in 1982 for the first theatrical release of Mobile Suit Gundam III: Encounters in Space, the concluding chapter of Yoshiyuki Tomino’s original Gundam film trilogy. Featuring beautiful artwork by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, signed “YAS.”, the sheet carries Shochiku branding and is explicitly marked 非売品 (“not for sale”).

Film background
Released in Japan on 13 March 1982, Encounters in Space brings the story of Amuro Ray and the White Base crew towards the conclusion of the One Year War. The film develops the rivalry between Amuro and Char Aznable alongside the emotional consequences of their encounters with Lalah Sune.

Combining spectacular space combat with a deeply human story of conflict, loss and understanding, the trilogy helped establish Mobile Suit Gundam as a defining work of Japanese animation.

Poster design
A wonderfully atmospheric painted composition dominated by deep blues, luminous highlights and a star-filled background. A large helmeted portrait of Amuro rises above a smaller floating figure, while the imposing head of the RX-78-2 Gundam anchors the lower left. The rocky silhouette of the space fortress A Baoa Qu connects the imagery vertically.

Yasuhiko’s expressive brushwork gives the machinery and figures a striking sense of texture and weight. The restrained typography allows the illustration to dominate, with the film’s red title and turquoise subtitle tucked into the lower-right corner. It is an exceptionally displayable design that captures both the scale and melancholy of the film.

Condition
Excellent, with very minor edge wear, as shown in the detailed photographs. The artwork retains strong colour and excellent visual impact.
