“Neon Genesis Evangelion: Genesis 0:12” (新世紀エヴァンゲリオン), Original Japanese Promotional Poster 1996, Rei Ayanami, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) B266A

Sale price $115.00

This is an original Japanese B2 promotional poster produced in 1996 for Neon Genesis Evangelion: Genesis 0:12, the twelfth volume in the original Japanese VHS / LaserDisc home-video release campaign.

Issued during the original 1990s Evangelion boom, this poster is especially desirable for its haunting Rei Ayanami artwork and its direct connection to two of the series’ most important late episodes: Episode 23 “Rei III” and Episode 24 “The Beginning and the End, or ‘Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door.”

Series background
Created by Hideaki Anno and produced by GAINAX, Neon Genesis Evangelion is one of the defining anime works of the 1990s. Its fusion of mecha action, apocalyptic science fiction, psychological trauma, religious symbolism, and emotional fragmentation transformed modern anime and remains deeply influential worldwide.

Genesis 0:12 occupies an important position in the original home-video release sequence, containing the late-series episodes centred on Rei Ayanami and Kaworu Nagisa, both crucial to the emotional and philosophical climax of the series.

Poster design
This B2 poster features a powerful and melancholic illustration of Rei Ayanami, shown standing waist-deep in a vivid orange-red liquid suggestive of LCL. She wears her white plugsuit, her expression turned upward, with tears and streaks visible across her face. The image is quiet, unsettling, and deeply characteristic of Evangelion’s emotional atmosphere.

The design uses a striking two-panel layout. The left side contains the main full-colour Rei illustration, while the right side shifts into a dark magenta and maroon abstract graphic field. Across the upper right, the classic serif title NEON GENESIS EVANGELION is printed with restrained elegance.

The poster clearly lists the contents of this volume:

EPISODE: 23 — Rei III
EPISODE: 24 — The Beginning and the End, or “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door”

At the lower right, the release designation Genesis 0:12 confirms this as part of the original Japanese home-video campaign. The overall design is spare, mature, and highly atmospheric, making it one of the more visually memorable Rei-focused Evangelion promotional posters from the 1990s.
