“Princess Mononoke” (もののけ姫), Original Japanese Home Video Promotional Poster 1998, Studio Ghibli / Hayao Miyazaki, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) Q281

Sale price $125.00

This is an original Japanese B2 promotional poster produced for the 1998 Japanese home video release of Princess Mononoke (もののけ姫), Hayao Miyazaki’s landmark Studio Ghibli masterpiece.

This is not a standard theatrical poster. It was issued as a retail / video-store promotional poster for the Ghibli ga Ippai Collection home video release, advertising the film’s June 26 video launch.

Film background
Released theatrically in Japan in 1997, Princess Mononoke became one of Studio Ghibli’s defining works. Directed by Hayao Miyazaki, the film explores the conflict between industrial expansion, ancient forest spirits, human survival, and the fragile possibility of coexistence.

Its scale, moral complexity, and visual intensity made it a turning point in modern Japanese animation, helping establish Ghibli as a global cultural force.

Poster design
This Japanese B2 uses a powerful close-up image of Ashitaka, set against a bright natural landscape of blue sky and green hillside. The design is unusually restrained, focusing on Ashitaka’s calm, resolute expression rather than the film’s more violent or fantastical imagery.

The vertical white tagline at left reads:

「それでもいい 共に生きよう。」
“Even so, let us live together.”

This line beautifully captures the emotional and philosophical heart of the film: not victory, but coexistence.

The lower section carries the Ghibli ga Ippai Collection branding, the red title もののけ姫, the credit 宮崎駿 監督作品, and the release notice:

「ビデオ 6月26日 新発売!」
“Video on sale June 26!”

This makes the poster a strong piece of Studio Ghibli home-video promotional ephemera, distinct from the theatrical campaign material.

Condition
Good / Very Good vintage condition. Please review the photos carefully, as they show the exact poster for sale.

There are noticeable wrinkles, handling creases, and surface impressions, visible across the poster and on the reverse. These condition points have been taken into account when pricing.

Despite the wrinkles, the poster retains strong colour, a beautiful central image, and very good overall display impact. Once framed, it will display very well.
