“Star Wars”, Original Burger Chef Promotional Poster Set 1977, Complete Set of Four, Coca-Cola / 20th Century-Fox Tie-In, 18 x 24 in each (c. 46 × 61 cm)

Sale price $750.00

This is an original complete set of four Star Wars promotional posters, printed in 1977 to coincide with the film’s first theatrical release. Issued as a rare three-way collaboration between 20th Century-Fox, The Coca-Cola Company, and Burger Chef Systems, Inc., the set stands among the most distinctive surviving tie-in pieces from the earliest Star Wars marketing era.

Illustrated by Del Nichols, the series features the artist’s unmistakable dreamlike, collage-style acrylic artwork, layering key characters, spacecraft, and action scenes into four richly atmospheric designs. The complete set includes Luke Skywalker, R2-D2 (Artoo-Detoo) / C-3PO (See-Threepio), Darth Vader, and Chewbacca — with Han Solo prominently featured on the final sheet. Each poster carries its correct lower-margin credits to The Coca-Cola Company and Burger Chef Systems, Inc., together with its original series numbering. Printed on mid-weight semi-gloss paper stock typical of 1970s promotional supplements, the set has exceptional visual presence.

These were promotional posters, not standard retail issue pieces, and complete surviving sets are considerably harder to find than individual examples. Among collectors of early Star Wars paper, the Burger Chef variant is especially sought after, and is often regarded as scarcer than the better-known Burger King version in some markets.

Provenance

Although Burger Chef was an American chain, examples of this set are known to have circulated through the Japanese market during Star Wars’ international rollout, where they overlap intriguingly with period Toho / Coca-Cola promotional material. That crossover gives the set an added level of appeal for collectors interested not only in original U.S. Star Wars ephemera, but also in the broader story of how the film was marketed internationally during its first release period.

Condition

Offered here as a complete unrestored set of four in excellent condition, close to near mint. All four posters present beautifully, with bright, saturated colour, clean overall surfaces, and superb display impact. The reverse sides are blank as issued, and only very light signs of age and handling are visible, consistent with careful preservation over nearly fifty years. Finding the full series together in this level of condition is becoming increasingly difficult.

Nearly half a century old, this is a remarkable surviving group from the original Star Wars era — a set that brings together cinema history, Coca-Cola advertising, restaurant promotion, and classic late-1970s fantasy illustration in one highly displayable package.
