This is a complete original Japanese promotional poster set of three, printed in 1980 to coincide with the release of Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back. Issued as part of a Coca-Cola tie-in campaign, this remarkable series stands apart from standard film advertising through the extraordinary painted artwork of Boris Vallejo, whose rich, dramatic style gives the posters a distinctive fine art presence and perfectly captures the darker, more atmospheric tone of the sequel.
The set comprises Number One of Three: Dagobah, featuring Luke Skywalker, Yoda, and R2-D2 in the heavy swamp; Number Two of Three: Hoth, showing Luke on Tauntaun, Han Solo, and the icy tension of the Imperial advance; and Number Three of Three: Bespin, the most dramatic image in the series, depicting Han Solo in the carbon-freezing chamber beneath the looming presence of Darth Vader. Each poster bears the integrated “BORIS ’80” signature and the printed line “An original poster series from The Coca-Cola Company”, firmly placing the set within the original promotional history of the film.
Produced for the Japanese market, these English-language posters are highly sought-after today for their crossover appeal between Star Wars memorabilia, vintage promotional advertising, and Boris Vallejo collectors. Vallejo’s contribution to the Star Wars universe was limited, which gives this set a special place within the broader history of franchise artwork. While single examples do appear from time to time, a complete matching set of all three posters is significantly more difficult to find — especially in such impressive condition.
Offered here as the full original set, all three posters are in excellent condition, very close to near mint, with bright colour, clean paper, and outstanding overall display appeal. The only condition note is that Number One of Three: Dagobah has some very minor edge wear; the other two posters present beautifully. Each poster measures approximately 18 x 24 inches (46 x 61 cm).
