“Tamagotchi: The True Story” (たまごっちホントのはなし), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1997, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) Q25

Sale price $250.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1997 for the first theatrical release of Tamagotchi: The True Story (たまごっちホントのはなし), the first animated Tamagotchi film. Released in Japan on 12 July 1997 as part of the ’97 Summer Toei Anime Fair, it was directed by Mitsuo Hashimoto, written by Yoshimi Narita, based on the Bandai concept, and runs approximately 9 minutes. Key voice cast includes Yukimasa Kishino as Banzō Hakase, Naoki Tatsuta as Oyajitchi, Yasuhiro Takato as Tamagotchi-sei, and Masami Suzuki as Mikachū.

Film background
Issued at the height of the original Tamagotchi boom, the film serves as a short, prologue-like origin story explaining how and why the Tamagotchis came to Earth. Japanese sources describe it as one of the shorts in the 1997 Toei Anime Fair line-up, alongside titles such as Jigoku Sensei Nūbē, Cutie Honey F, and Hana Yori Dango. It is especially notable as an early piece of Tamagotchi screen history, produced before the later, more familiar long-form Tamagotchi anime projects.

Poster design
This Japanese poster is wonderfully bright and highly displayable, using a playful sky-blue ground crowded with classic early Tamagotchi characters and doodle-like handwritten annotations. The large cloud-shaped title panel gives the sheet a charming children’s-book feel, while the round Earth-like Tamagotchi planet at centre reinforces the film’s origin-story premise. Characters from the original digital-pet era—including Mametchi, Kuchipatchi, Oyajitchi, and other early mascots—give the design strong nostalgic appeal. It is exactly the sort of vivid late-1990s Bandai / Toei promotional artwork that works beautifully framed.
