This is an original Japanese poster printed in 1981 for the first theatrical release of The Legend of Sirius (Japanese: シリウスの伝説, Sirius no Densetsu)—an animated fantasy romance produced by Sanrio to celebrate the company’s 20th anniversary.

Also known internationally as Sea Prince and the Fire Child, the film was directed by Masami Hata, with character designs and animation by Mushi Production alumni. Inspired by classical mythology, it tells the tragic love story of Prince Sirius of the Sea and Princess Malta of Fire, whose forbidden bond triggers a cosmic struggle between the water and flame kingdoms. The movie is noted for its lush background art, sweeping Joe Hisaishi–style score, and ornate poster illustration—capturing Sirius and Malta entwined against a mystical forest backdrop, highlighted here by vivid Sanrio greens.
