“28 Days Later…” (28日後…), Original Japanese First-Release Movie Poster 2003, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) ZA1229
This is an original Japanese B2 poster produced for the 2003 first Japanese theatrical release of Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later…. Written by Alex Garland and starring Cillian Murphy, Naomie Harris, Brendan Gleeson and Christopher Eccleston, this British horror film combines the terror of a viral outbreak with an unsettling vision of society’s collapse. Its Japanese campaign gives the film’s distinctive imagery exceptional impact through a dramatic red, black and yellow design.
Film background
Originally released in Britain in 2002, the film follows bicycle courier Jim, who wakes from a coma to discover a deserted London. A highly contagious “Rage” virus has devastated the country, leaving scattered survivors to navigate both the infected and the dangers posed by other people.
Boyle turns familiar streets and landmarks into a haunting landscape of abandonment. The contrast between these eerily quiet sequences and sudden eruptions of violence gives the film its distinctive rhythm, while Murphy’s vulnerable performance anchors the story’s human dimension.
Poster design
An enormous pair of staring eyes stretches across a saturated red-orange background, with biohazard symbols embedded in the pupils. At the centre, a larger black biohazard emblem surrounds the distressed white English title, crossed by a slanted yellow strip carrying 「28日後…」.
Across the top, a stark timeline progresses through Exposure, Infection, Epidemic, Evacuation and Devastation, building anticipation toward the twenty-eighth day. Below, a solitary figure walks through an emptied London landscape, with the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben silhouetted at the right. The deliberately scratched textures and worn lettering reinforce the atmosphere of contamination and breakdown.
