“Akira” (AKIRA), Original Japanese Home Video / Rental Promotion Poster 1989, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) P97
This is an original Japanese B2 home-video promotional poster for AKIRA, produced for Bandai Home Video / EMOTION as part of the domestic Sale & Rental campaign. The sheet is explicitly marked 「国際映画祭参加版」 (“International Film Festival participation version”) and promotes a revised cut (“200 cuts retaken and further graded-up”), with the large callout 「12.1 レンタルスタート」 indicating the rental start date: December 1. This is therefore not a theatrical release one-sheet—it is a Japan video-era promotion tied to the festival-version home-video rollout.
Design
A bold, period-perfect AKIRA image: Kaneda stands centred in his iconic red jacket against the sprawling Neo-Tokyo cityscape, wielding a futuristic weapon—pure late-’80s cyberpunk energy. The massive AKIRA logotype slams across the bottom in metallic grey and blood red, while the pixelated “digital noise” banding across the top reinforces the film’s technological dystopia. With the Bandai/Emotion marks and pricing details, it’s an outstanding time-capsule piece of Japan’s original AKIRA home-video moment.
