“An American Werewolf in London” (狼男アメリカン), Original Japanese Movie Poster 1981 First Release, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O191
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1981 for the first domestic theatrical release of An American Werewolf in London (USA/UK, 1981), written and directed by John Landis and starring David Naughton, Jenny Agutter, and Griffin Dunne. First-issue Japanese country sheets for landmark 1980s horror titles are highly collectible.
Film background
Two American backpackers are attacked on the Yorkshire moors; one is killed, the other cursed to transform under the full moon. Landis fuses dark comedy with visceral horror, anchored by Rick Baker’s groundbreaking transformation effects—winner of the inaugural 1982 Academy Award for Best Makeup.
Poster design
A ferocious, high-impact country sheet: the werewolf lunges diagonally across a blazing yellow field, jaws bared and claws forward. Torn-edge inset stills (full-moon, transformations, victims) cluster in the upper left, while the massive distressed red logotype 「狼男アメリカン」 crashes across the bottom. English titling “AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON,” the Herald distributor mark, and Japanese billing along the base are classic hallmarks of an authentic 1981 theatrical sheet with electrifying wall presence.
