This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 2006 for the first theatrical release of Anpanman: Star-Spirited Dollie (Soreike! Anpanman: Inochi no Hoshi no Dollie), the 18th feature film in the long-running Anpanman series. Directed by Hiroyuki Yano, with screenplay by Tomoko Konparu, the film opened in Japan on 15 July 2006. Key voice cast includes Keiko Toda, Ryūsei Nakao, Hiroshi Masuoka, and Rei Sakuma, with Yumi Adachi as the guest voice of Dollie.
Film background
By 2006, the Anpanman films had become one of the most enduring family animation franchises in Japan, and Star-Spirited Dollie stands out as one of the more heartfelt entries. The story follows Anpanman after he discovers a discarded doll who receives life from a star and becomes Dollie, setting in motion a gentle fantasy about identity, joy, and what it means to live. The film was produced by the usual Anpanman production committee partners and distributed by Tokyo Theatres / Media Box in Japan.
Poster design
This is a beautiful and highly displayable Japanese design. Against a deep star-filled night sky, Dollie floats weightlessly across space with a shooting-star trail bursting from her chest, while Anpanman rises from a bank of clouds below in surprise. The composition is simple, dreamlike, and unusually poetic for a children’s film poster, with the English subtitle “Star-Spirited Dollie” and “Origination by TAKASHI YANASE” adding extra charm. It is exactly the kind of whimsical, visually memorable Anpanman poster that works wonderfully framed.
